ARCHITECTURE
We believe in the importance of architecture. Architecture is a civilizing force. The much-quoted statement of Winston Churchill documents this that: "first we create buildings and then they create us." American architecture has long been at odds with our ingrained practicality. We have nurtured noble values in often-ignoble environments and soulless rooms.
Human values should guide all architecture. Among these, of course, are usefulness and practicality. But architecture attempts to provide a better environment that reaches beyond mere utility. These values are often only perceived in the final product. Do the people who use the building enjoy it? Does it fulfill its mission? Is it an enhancement to the community?
If these three questions can be affirmatively answered by the architecture, then the project can be considered a great success.
